Less than three years after production started, the one millionth second-generation Renault Scenic has emerged from the factory in Douai, France. This just happens to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the launch of the original Megane Scenic, the car which pretty much invented the now fiercely competitive compact MPV class.

It did very well, but the Scenic II has done better. The original car took four years to reach one million units, and that was against no opposition for the first two years.

Altogether, the Douai plant has produced around three million Scenics. More than 325,000 - around 11% - have been sold in the UK.
